I went out to eat here about a month ago with my husband and another couple. We had exceptional service. Everything was brought out promptly. I even asked the manager for a suggestion on what to order and he was spot on. The sushi rolls were delicious. (Get the white sox roll, it's awesome) Every appetizer we got was also delicious, especially the lobster Rangoon. My friend doesn't like sushi, but they offer hibachi and she said it was delicious. If you're looking for good Asian cuisine in the Orland park area I would definitely suggest Dao, you won't be disappointed.

Have given this place many tries in hopes that things would be better. The service and horrible. We usually go on weeknights during their happy hour for the 1/2 rolls or sashmi/nigiri. It seems like the service is not consistent and from speaking with one of the waiters, he informed us that the turnover rate is very high. The decor is nice, but the service needs much improvement. I noticed that wait staff were standing around not working and it took a long time before the waiter came to refill my water. He was mainly hiding out in the back corner room. The sushi is ok. I would not go there and pay full price. I have tried pretty much every roll off the menu. My favorite would be the Rocking Napalm roll. Some of the rolls indicate spicy (they are not spicy at all in my opinion-- the heat needs to be turned up!). All in all, I'd be willing to give this place another try in a few months to see if the service has improved. If not, this may be a place that will not last very long in the area considering that there are other options.

One server can ruin your business. Went for drinks with a friend who heard there was a jazz band in the bar area. We sat at the bar close to the server station and could see all the drinks being made. One particular server consistently ate the fruit garnish right out of their bins with her fingers in-between adding lemons or olives to her drink orders. What shocked us the most was when she pulled olives out of a cocktail with her fingers when she realized she garnished it wrong. The cocktail then went out into the dining room to a customer. My friend talked to the general manager who immediately notified the bar manager. Major sanitation issue.

I gave Dao a second chance because I had some lunch time free. Again, a bit disappointing. The chicken in the Tom Kha soup was a bit stringy and stale. And, again, the sushi tasted a bit off. Blah.

We made reservations ahead of time but weren't given a good table at all. Regardless, the food presentation is nice and the sake flights and sushi was delicious. Even with a Groupon it was still expensive though, so make sure you have room to splurge here.

Went there 3 days in row. Volcano Roll was amazing a had it this Saturday went back Sunday because we were so impressed with the service and amazing sushi . Then we found about the crazy specials they have on Monday and we had to go. 3 days service was amazing each time. Highly recommend. Will he going back soon.

We wanted so much to like this place. Service ruined it. We waited so long for our drinks that were not so good, our appetizers being delivered to out next table to be rejected by them. The appetizers set at the sushi counter forever and was delivered with the entrees together. We saw our sushi sit at the sushi counter with an order ticker sitting on top of our sushi which was kind of gross. Why??? We didn't get some of our sushi that we ordered so we asked our waitress and she said they were out but still charged us. So very disappointed. I hope the management gets better. But we won't go back and we saw few other tables of people that probably won't either. Service was terrible and we feel like we just wasted a lot of money.

My bf and I were very impressed with Frank Demos's live performance. Our server, Erin was wonderful and the sushi (volcano) was the best sushi we ever had. Food came out in no time! The dessert was great.. Ended up getting two :) tiramisu & the pistachio cheesecake. Highly recommend ! We will definitely return !! :))

I love this place! The inside was absolutely beautiful, and I totally enjoyed their pick of music while I ate my delicious sushi. I would most definitely recommend the volcano roll, I think it was possibly the best I've ever had! Overall great food awesome atmosphere and good service.

The food was excellent and service was great. The place was empty at 9PM on a Saturday night so I doubt it will be around long, as many have come and gone in this location. Try the Lobster Rangoon and the Pistachio Cheesecake (small slice but yummy). All of the 4 sushi rolls were excellent (don't remember their names). Sorry :(

Service was horrible. Food came out of kitchen at least 10 minutes after my friends did even though we were one of two tables being used in the whole restaurant. After it was all said and done they did not honor my friends groupon for his meal because I had ordered a sushi roll that was on special, even though we were on separate checks. The food was fine, but I am not a fan of how this restaurant was run.

We came in on a Monday for 50% off signature rolls and this is my second time here. I don't think I will ever come back on any other day; ~$7-9 signature rolls are too good. Sat in the bar area which was nice but probably not as cool as the dining room. We all ordered a couple rolls each and I think everyone got something different. I thought the mango tango was decent, but I really loved the she-she roll; it's probably my all time favorite now. My -1 star comes from the service. They did appear to be swamped with sushi orders but in general the service was very, very slow. The first server was actually the bartender but eventually turned into someone else. We waited nearly 30 minutes for our rolls and the server disappeared a couple times. Our dinner kind of dragged on a little longer than we would have liked. Still thought the food was good, once we got it. I'm a sushi lover and Dao is still a great place for it.

Horrible service! waitress didn't know what was on the menu & we pointed out what my family wanted & showed her & she still got it wrong & blamed us!!! WORST EVER SERVICE! Wish it was still the canoe club!

Love their hose salad, ginger sause is best I've had & better than Chi-Tung and the Dragon Fire Roll is amaze balls!! Can't wait for my next visit on half price Monday to try the White Sox Roll. This place is great for a date or hanging out on a nice evening on the patio. The bar area is very spacious and inviting as well! I highly recommend this place!

I had a wonderful experience at Dao. The sushi was good for the price and the service was on point. My favorite thing about this place is there half off signature rolls on Monday.

My wife ordered the stir fried seafood and udon dish. Very, very tasty. They only way they could improve it would be to add some other veggy besides the excess of red and green peppers. I had the 12 piece chef's choice nigiri assortment. I'm glad I let him choose. maguro, yellowtail, spicy scallops, spicy octopus, toro and sake. All perfectly assembled. Desert was a slice of the pistachio cheese cake. Dense, N.Y. style. Perfect size for a share between 2 lighter eaters. Service was great. Drinks kept full and the spent dishes disappeared regularly. Ambiance is a very impressive mix of Asian statuary from China,Japan and other eastern culture. Very well done. We'll be back!

I recommend this new addition to the Orland Park sushi scene. Dao is large, tastefully decorated, and they have a great patio with brand new outdoor furniture. The inside is decorated with a huge Buddha and other statues (reminds me of Tao in Vegas). Sat outside and service was excellent. They also seem to have live music in their large bar area if you are into that. Food? The sushi is delicious and they have creative special rolls to try. We had the Toro wraps to start - avocado wrapped around Toro (tastiest part of tuna from belly). We also tried the Rocking Napalm roll, a great roll if you like spicy ! The spicy tuna roll was top notch.

Recently while visiting my old favorite sushi spot overheard the owners being very mean to the staff. I noticed that alot of my favorite servers and bartenders werent there. I asked our bartender what was up and he said everybody was quitting because of the abhorent treatment from the owners. I was surprised because i loved the staff. They were always polite and knowledgeable. If the owners of dao sushi cant appreciate good employees then ill be taking my business somewhere else.

Yup. So this place is hit or miss. Been here 4 times now and yes it's stupid that I kept trying in hopes of improvement (and also the special half off rolls on Tuesday and half off sashimi on Wednesday). We've only had good service ONCE in all the times here. I like how it felt like discrimination too as some tables got edamame, but we've only been given it ONCE. The last time we came I asked whom I think was the manager if edamame is complimentary to which he replied yes and asked if we wanted any.... Not really since we've already waited 30 minutes for sashimi/nigiri and finally received our food. The quality of food is decent and the decor is nice, but service just drags them down so much and we've had such poor experiences that I will never be back again. Updating my review from 2 stars to 1 star and even then when I think back on some of the times we've come it makes me wish I can go lower.

Sushi was extremely fresh. We enjoyed most of the rolls we ordered except one. We tried to ask the bartender for her recommendations but she could only offer one word responses. She was really dingy and didn't deserve the $20 tip she received.

Nice atmosphere. Average quality food for the price you pay. Much better quality sushi in the area. Service was sub par. Very unlikely we will return.

If you're looking for good sushi, go to Dao. I tried the Volcano Roll, Dragon on Fire, Boston Roll, and the Spicy Crab Roll. Volcano Roll- 10/10. Dragon on Fire Roll- 10/10 Boston Roll- 5/10 Spicy Crab Roll- 5/10 I have to admit that I did not enjoy the Boston and Spicy Crab Rolls. Their regular rolls are nothing special. I have had much better rolls elsewhere. These rolls lacked taste and weren't satisfying. As for the Volcano and Dragon on Fire roll, man that was good! Those two were probably some of the best signature rolls I have had. I am pretty picky with sushi; however, the signature rolls won my heart at Dao. I feel like I had a good experience at Dao. My friend and I were satisfied with the service which was definitely a plus. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. I would give this new place a try. You won't regret it. Great sushi, great service.

Went to Dao for sushi. The food was good but the service was awful. There were only two female servers and they were running there butts off. The male older bus boys were terrible. We asked for water and silverware and they never brought it to us. They were not helping the servers. We complained to the manager Ron and he said he would check into it and acted like he could mot be bothered. Other people were complaining also. We spent $140. We should have gotten something off the bill for the poor service or may be an apology. We will never go there again. Debbie G.

Overall it is pretty good. Priced pretty high compared to the other sushi restaurants in the area. Doesn't actually mean the sushi is any better. Look for the mailer in the mail to get some money off when you go there.

We went there tonight with a groupon. I won't eat Sushi so I really didn't want to go, but Daisy busted her ass around the house so she deserved her choice for dinner. We got there everyone was nice, our server Christa was great and had some great suggestions for us. All in all a nice dinner food was great a little pricy, but Christa made up for all that. Yes I'll bite the bullet and go there again.

SOME BUDDY SHOOT ME..... The food is great. but Oh how the service SUCKS. ITS SLOWER THEN MOLASSES.waiter kept checking on us every 20 or so minutes. We asked for desert menu we waited 20 minutes, after reviewing the menu. We waited another 20 minutes to order. I can go on with the bad service. But the food is great.

Ugh. I wish the service was better because they really do have such awesome food specials. Don't get me wrong everyone is always nice but you have to literally ask for everything and then wait for it. We always sit at the bar and every single time we've had to stop them to get something. We sat here with waters for a couple minutes until we're finally like umm could we maybe get some menus? They walk by your empty glasses 10 times until you finally say something. Asked for silverware that never came :( it's ok tho I guess I was able to practice my chopstick skills lol

Okay, first time here. We have a reservation. There is a line of 15 people waiting. We go to bar and order drinks. Service is slow and no one seems in a hurry. 30 minutes pass and table is ready. Haven't even eaten yet. Ok. Sat for dinner. Waitress is like Hailey's comet. Comes around every 8 years. Menu not impressive.

We had been watching the progress on the building renovation at 152nd and 94th Avenue with anticipation. It's one of the more unique spaces in town so we were very curious to see what was going in there. Soon, the sign went up on the building and we still weren't sure what the name of the restaurant was called...the logo that is their sign is virtually impossible to read if you don't already know the name! We know it now...it's called Dao!!! We decided, spur of the moment, to try it last night with a couple of friends. We met in the bar at 6 for a drink and were waited on promptly by our bartender, Jill. She recommended an asian Lychee infused vodka with soda for my friend which was awesome...I know because I tried it after dinner! Then we were seated right away when we were ready...no pressure. Our waitress was attentive without being pushy (I wish I could remember her name...receipt says: User-Mack?) and easily explained what the ingredients were in all of the sushi rolls we ordered after we got them and couldn't remember ourselves! The food was amazing! We had spring rolls and salmon wrapped asparagus appetizers...just the right sized starters and very tasty! We moved on to soups, tom kha gai for me, tom kha for hubby, and avocado salads for our friends. They raved about the salads so much, i wished I would have had room for that, too! My only suggestion was that my soup could have been spicier but that's a personal preference! For our entrées, we each ordered a different sushi roll, that were served family style so we could share. These included the Blackhawks roll (what can I say...I'm a superfan!) White Sox roll, Perfect Match roll and a Green Lover roll. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! The rolls that were indicated to be spicy had just the right amount of heat without trying to hurt you! Everything we tried was excellent! The ONLY reasons that they didn't get the full 5 stars is because, when our friends tried to call at 4 to see if we needed a reservation, no one answered the phone. And I would also love for them to advertise or publicize their business more locally because I really want them to stay for a long time to come! I am afraid that if people can't read their sign, they won't try it! That would be a big loss!!! I'll do my part to spread the word...facebook, twitter, word of mouth and YELP!!!

My boyfriend and I went here for a date night and were pleasantly surprised! The menu was well put together with a good variety of both food and alcohol. We were given a complimentary dish of edamame, which was fantastic! It was fresh and very lightly salted. The sushi we ordered (2 in 1 roll, dragon on fire, and a philly) was very fresh and tasty! Our only complaint was that our waitress didn't have any idea how to process our groupon. She gave us a very odd ook when we gave it to her. The restaurant honored it, but she had to have hey manager to help her process it. All and all it was a pleasant experience; we will be back again!

Kim Amendola Dao Restaurant & Bar 6 minutes ago near Palos Park, IL · Compared to Burr Ridge, the service was VERY slow (Wednesday night) while the place was deserted. We were our server's only table, and it was quite awhile to get cold edamame & drinks. She was So slow, the rice from our rolls were 'stuck' to the plate. We ordered 3 of the same rolls with others & they added $1.00 more to the 3rd. Watch for OVERCHARGING & slow slow service.

Beautiful place with a lot of space and potential. Not going to happen...First of all this place has higher prices for COOKED ROLLS. I don't go out to eat sushi that is cooked, sooo suburban. Drinks were really good with reasonable prices. Pretty well rounded menu with a lot of choices. Again, the food was not bad but definitely not great and not authentic sushi. The worst part of this place is the service, it is just terrible. Management does not have a clue and the employees can barely do anything. We were ignored for so long that we contemplated just walking out, but being an honest person I finally was able to get their attention enough to pay my bill. This was while the place was empty, if it gets crowded they will never be able to maintain service.

Place is amazing. New, clean, volcano roll is the bomb. It's a bit pricey but the happy hour 3-6 pm half off signature sushi rolls is a steal.deal. Desserts are also good. I'd recommend the pyramid. Definitely going again

Visited on 12/05/2014. Server. Grace. Kobe Beef tasted like any Ribeye steak--not sure if it was real Kobe Beef. It was good, but I stil think it was Ribeye steak. Good service. Poor signage. The name "DAO" was so blurred into the sign that we could not tell that the name of the restaurant was "DAO" until we read the menu inside. Nice attractive building inside and out, but it has had bad luck with its previous tenants, "Canoe Club" and "Johnny's Charhouse". 94th Ave is not very visible, but I hope the restaurant does well.

Have been here several times and the sushi is always fresh and the service attentive. We especially love that they offer discounts on Monday nights, which makes a normally pricey meal affordable! Definitely a new favorite of ours.

Dined at Dao pre power shopping this morning. We were the first people in there, and greatly enjoyed our experience. Our server Mike was excellent. My wife ordered Hamachi sushi to start, and was worried when our server didn't clarify as it is listed as yellow tail on the menu. When he brought it out he reintroduced as such. We also had their special roll that had a great spicy orange siracha sauce. Our server strongly recommended the spicy chicken, which took a little while but was certainly worth the wait. Can't wait to try some of their drinks next time. It's a beautiful building, glad to see the space is occupied.

**STAY AWAY AT ALL COST. THERE ARE TOO MANY OTHER PLACES IN THE AREA THAT ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS!!!** My wife and I have now been here twice. As they say, fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Well SHAME ON ME! The first time we went was a double date. My wife and I split one dinner and had a couple rolls and drinks and the bill was well over $100. The other couple ordered similarly but also got the shrimp sushi tacos for around $14. The two tacos came on a large platter and I'm being generous if I said they were two bites each. Even the waiter seemed to be smirking at what he had just delivered as if he couldn't believe they would charge that for the joke of a portion. From start to finish the meal was awkward. The waiter was unprofessional and strange. Later, we wondered if it was some sort of a hidden camera show. It was entertaining but for all the wrong reasons you'd want from a fine dining establishment. Vowing not to come back for more abuse, we figured we'd seen the last of Dao. But after a date night, the two of us stopped in for a drink before going home. Instead of one drink, I opted for two small drinks to try some new things. They had a $5 small Japanese beer and a $6 small hot sake on the menu. I ordered those two. The waitress brought me a beer and a sake. Normal enough, right? The drinks were fine and soon we were ready to go. Upon receiving the bill, I notice there is a $10 charge for a large hot sake and asked the waitress. She told me that when she went to enter it into the POS it only gave her the choice for the large and she "thought that might be a problem later." (might = only if I notice it on the bill I guess). She said she could just get me another drink for free. I told her we were leaving and that she could instead just go take $4 off the bill and bring it back to us. Some dressed-up douchebag whom I took to be a manager of some sort approaches me next to explain the bill. He says that they don't have a small sake and that the menu is wrong. I explain that the menu says small sake, I ordered a small sake, and I'm paying for a small sake. He gets in my face and tells me that I drank a large sake and that is what I'm going to pay for. Thusfar in the evening I've been having a good time so I'm still in good spirits. Plus the situation is so ridiculous that it is almost laughable. I inform him that I ordered a small sake and the waitress brought me an unlabeled sake container. Had it said LARGE I would have told her she brought the wrong one. I again point to the menu where it says small and tell him I ordered that. He says "I know. I'm not deaf!" At this point I am speachlessly looking at my wife. I tell the guy that I can't believe he is speaking to me this way and he accuses me of swearing at him, then asking around to all the staff if they heard me swear at him. The staff even seems to want nothing to do with the him at this point. Finally, another man comes up and asks what the problem is. I explain that I've had a bad dinner service but came back for a drink. How can they screw up something that simple? But clearly they can. I declare that I will NEVER set foot in this establishment again after the way we've been treated. He takes the bill and leaves for a minute, coming back to tell us that it is on the house. I thank him and leave a few dollars tip for the waitress, though she is far from blameless in the ordeal. I might not have written a review at this point. Sure, I ranted to anyone who'd listen until my blood cooled down, but I'm too busy to bother with a place that will probably be closed within six months. That is, until my wife called me today, fuming because she say her credit card statement and they charged us for the drinks after all. Maybe I missed the memo. Maybe this is some avant-guarde concept restaurant that is trying to out-ahole Ed Debevic's and I just wasn't in on the joke. Either way, this was the site of the two worst restaurant experiences I can remember in the past decade and they still owe me $26. **STAY AWAY AT ALL COST. THERE ARE TOO MANY OTHER PLACES IN THE AREA THAT ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS!!!**

I really want to like this place. They took over the space that was Johnnies Char House, which was a bust. It hasn't been much of anything since the Canoe Club, which was our favorite go-to restaurant. Dao may have taken on bit too much for this size place. Went with a few friends last night and sat at the bar. There was a group of people sitting on the south side of the bar, and less than that on our side, the north side. It took almost 15 minutes before the server finally acknowledged us. Bar backs were coming by continuously, but no service. Just as we were about to leave, the server appeared. With so few people in the place on a Saturday night, you would think that service would be easy. We drank our drinks & decided to go elsewhere to eat. C'mon people, sushi in general is not cheap, and neither are your drinks. If were going to pay this much, at least get the service up to par!

Went on date night here last night. What a great place to walk into. Was greeted with a smile, brought to our table and enjoyed the look of the place. Our waitress Mackenzie was great. We ordered a bottle of wine and I never had to fill my own glass. She was on it. She knew everything on the menu. The sushi was really really good. Nothing in the area as good as this place. Will def return

Go here! Excellent food, service, atmosphere. Good for date night or girls night. In the bar area they had live music last week, this week there wasn't any. ( Thursday night) I loved the Buddha roll... and the fried jalapeno appetizer. yummyyyyyy

Horrible service. We made a reservation and still had to wait over an hour to be seated. Once we were sewer we waited over another hour for our food to be brought to the table and we only ordered two rolls. Our waitress never checked us. The only good thing was the sushi. But we would never return.

My girlfriend and I went there for a date and were really happy with the meal!! The sake was great (had to have 2!) but the containers sucked and kept spilling. But the fish was incredibly fresh and great, and I had an additional roll with Mango that was phenomenal !! Totally a repeat customer.

First time eating sushi and let me say that I will be back for more. I like fish meals but they had by far the best tuna. They will even brag about how "smooth and fresh" it is. They aren't lying. I had the candycane roll which was a roll with white and red tuna layed over the top. It was a Christmas special but I wish it was a yearly item!
